Dare County Parks and Recreation Announces March Facility Reopenings

Posted By on March 5, 2021

The Dare County Department of Parks and Recreation has announced the dates and times of several activities that will resume this month following previous COVID-19 restrictions and closures.

The Youth Center at Family Recreation Park in Kill Devil Hills resumed daily pickleball and after-school use on Monday, March 1. The schedule for these activities may be modified on the dates when COVID-19 vaccine clinics are held at the Youth Center, so participants are encouraged to check the calendar each day to ensure their class or activity is being offered.

The Lions Club Center at Westcott Park in Manteo also reopened on March 1. Youth hours are 3:00-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Youth open gym on Wednesdays will be available until 7:00 p.m. Youth must be in at least sixth grade to participate without an adult. Adult hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, unless school is out.

The Fessenden Center in Buxton on Hatteras Island reopened on Wednesday, March 3. A mix of in-person and virtual classes will be held; however, the schedule for in-person activities—such as fitness classes and pickleball—will be modified on the dates when COVID-19 vaccine clinics are held. Participants are encouraged to check the fitness calendar each day in case there are no in-person classes being held that day.

Individuals must have a participant form and a COVID-19 waiver on file in order to participate in activities or use the facilities. Masks are required and social distancing must be adhered to while participants are inside the facilities.

More Dare County Parks and Recreation activities will be announced soon. For a complete schedule of activities, visit www.DareNC.com/Departments/Parks-Recreation. For more information about programs, contact the Department of Parks and Recreation office at 252-475-5850.

Note: COVID-19 vaccine clinics are offered by appointment only and available only for individuals who are currently in the phase and/or group that is eligible to receive a vaccine.
