Kill Devil Hills Extends 2020 Lifeguard Season at 5 Beaches

Posted By on September 7, 2020

With the Labor Day holiday traditionally marking the symbolic end of tourist season on the Outer Banks, local lifeguards are usually no longer watching over the beaches following this weekend, however, Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue announced today that lifeguard stands will remain in place at five of the town’s most popular public beach accesses into mid-October.

In a statement posted on social media on Sept. 7, KDH Ocean Rescue says, “In addition to our usual roving patrol, the town will be extending its Ocean Rescue services until October 15, 2020, by keeping five fixed and staffed lifeguard stands at the following beach accesses: Hayman Boulevard, 5th Street, 2nd Street, Ocean Bay Boulevard, and Neptune Drive.”

The National Park Service also recently announced an extension of their lifeguard season at a few key beaches on Cape Hatteras National Seashore into the fall of 2020.
