Duck Town Manager Resigns After Assault Arrest

Duck Town Manager Chris Layton has resigned after he was arrested earlier this month on charges of assaulting another town administrative employee.

At the Duck Town Council meeting today (July 24), the Council voted to “accepted the resignation of former Town Manager Christopher Layton, effective immediately,” according to a press release from the town.

Layton was arrested on July 15 for two counts of assault on a town employee who works in his office, after which he was placed on administrative leave. Following is arrest, Layton was released from custody on a $5,000 unsecured bond. His trial date is scheduled for August 21.

Duck Director of Community Development Joseph Heard, who had been serving as Acting Town Manager since July 16, has been named the interim Town Manager and Finance Officer.
