Two Drownings Reported in Croatan Sound Off Roanoke Island on July 5th

The bodies of two males who apparently drowned in the Croatan Sound at the Old Swimming Hole on Roanoke Island were found on Sunday morning, July 5.

A call to 911 came in at 11:02 a.m. reporting that an individual had slipped underwater, according to The Coastland Times. Upon arrival, first responders found that two people were missing in the water.

As bystanders tried to help in the search, divers from the Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department were able to locate and bring the two individuals to the ramp at the Old Swimming Hole location, however, resuscitation efforts by Dare County Emergency Medical Services personnel were unsuccessful.

The Old Swimming Hole is located between the North Carolina Aquarium and the Dare County Regional Airport on Roanoke Island.

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is expected to release additional details about this incident on Monday, July 6, and this article will be updated as new information becomes available.
