Tidewater Comicon Is Back With A ‘Flash’ And Comic Book Icons

Posted By on May 3, 2017

The biggest event of its kind in the region, Tidewater Comicon returns to Virginia Beach this month, bringing many of the iconic creators, writers, and artists of your favorite comic book heroes and villains, along with stars of The Flash and Clerks, and what can only be described as some of the best cosplay on the east coast.

Legendary DC artist Neal Adams, who helped to create some of the definitive modern imagery of the characters Superman, Batman, and Green Arrow, among so many others, headlines this year’s event and will be at Comicon both days signing autographs, meeting fans, and participating in Q&A panels. Adams is also a pioneering creators-rights advocate who helped secure a pension and rightful recognition for Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Longtime X-Men writer Chris Claremont, who co-created Legion (now an awesome FX series), as well as Rogue, Mystique, Sabretooth, Emma Frost, and Gambit, and made Wolverine into the fan favorite badass he is today, will also be there for both days. Claremont’s landmark 1975-1991 stint at Uncanny X-Men is longer than that of any other writer of that title, during which time he turned the once underachieving comic into one of Marvel’s most popular series. His classic stories include Days of Future Past and The Dark Phoenix Saga, which will be the basis for the next X-Men movie to be released in 2018.

Stars of The CW’s hit series The Flash, Violett Beane, who plays Jesse Quick, and John Wesley Shipp, who plays dual roles of The Flash’s dad Henry Allen and Earth-2’s Flash Jay Garrick, are sure to get fans’ hearts racing. A native of the Tidewater, Virginia area (Norfolk), Shipp also played the original Barry Allen/Flash in the short-lived 1990s TV series. Beane will run into a new genre in the upcoming horror thriller Flay.

Jason Mewes (Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Mallrats, Halloweed) is also among the celebrity guests announced, along with voice actor Dana Snyder (Aqua Teen, Justice League Action), Marvel/DC artist Jae Lee (The Dark Tower, Daredevil, Namor the Sub-Mariner), pro wrestlers Hacksaw Jim Duggan and The Boogeyman, and many others.

In addition to the special guests, there will be dozens of vendors and numerous panels throughout the weekend, as well as a cosplay costume contest, kids comics area, tattoo corner, and game zone.

Tidewater Comicon 2017 is happening on Saturday and Sunday, May 13-14 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Passes are still available here, and you can join the official Facebook event page here.
