Pete’s Dragon comes to life in theaters this week, while a new adult comedy explores the secret life of grocery store foods.

The third film in Warner Bros. Pictures’ newly established DC Extended (movie) Universe, it’s time to shine a spotlight of some of DC Comics’ most infamous bad guys in Suicide Squad (rated PG13), continuing its run at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo through August 18.

Showtime at The Pioneer is 8pm nightly.

Suicide Squad stars Jared Leto as Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Ben Affleck resuming his cape and cowl from Dawn of Justice as Batman.

Headlining this week’s new releases is the family fantasy Pete’s Dragon (rated PG), opening Friday at RC Theatres in Kill Devil Hills.

Also new this week is the comedy Sausage Party (rated R), also opening Friday at RC Theatres, with special preview screenings set for tonight (Thursday) at 7:40 and 10pm.
