The Dare County Arts Council is pleased to host the work of local artist of George R. Cheeseman for the month of April.

His show, Recent Watercolors of Family, Friends, and the Outer Banks, will open with a First Friday reception from 6pm-8pm on April 4th, and will remain on display through April 30th. The public is invited to join in the opening celebrations, featuring light fare, live music, and libations.

This is a free event.

George was born June 13, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he later earned his BFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Fine Arts in 1974.  Shortly after graduation he relocated to Missouri where he met his wife, Linda, and helped to raise their three children: Liz, Shawn, and Katie.

It is there in Missouri where he received his Master’s degree in painting and art education. He taught kindergarten through college in a career that lasted for more than 27 years.

Having vacationed on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for over two decades it was logical that he, Linda, and Katie relocate permanently in 2004. Since then George has dedicated his time to education and to his love for watercolor painting.

His work is loosely representational and depicts subjects that he loves and knows best- his family, his friends, and his community. George’s paintings are in private and corporate collections from coast to coast, and can be seen by appointment at his home studio.

Dare County Arts Council is located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue in downtown Manteo. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm, and on Saturday’s from noon until 4 p.m.
