Leatherface revs up his chainsaw again in theaters this week, while Matt Damon visits the Promised Land and Pi survives at The Pioneer.

Director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) is back with the epic Life of Pi (rated PG), about a teenage boy who must survive for months on a small lifeboat at sea with only a fearsome Bengal tiger as his companion, opening at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, starting this Friday for a one week run.

One of the greatest horror icons in movie history returns when Leatherface attacks theaters in the new Texas Chainsaw 3D (rated R), premiering Thursday (Jan.3) at 10pm and opening Friday in both 3D and traditional 2D formats at KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills.

The horror film stars Petersburg, Virginia native Trey Songz, along with Alaxandra Daddario (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), Scott Eastwood (Flags of our Fathers), Tania Raymonde (ABC’s Lost), and Dan Yeager as the killer behind the mask(s).

This seventh film in the Texas Chainsaw franchise also keeps it in the family, also featuring cast members returning from the 1973 original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, including the original Leatherface Gunnar Hansen, Marilyn Burns (Sally), and John Dugan (Grandpa), along with Bill Moseley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) taking over the role of Drayton Sawyer, played in the first two films by Jim Siedow.

Also opening this week at KDH Movies 10, Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity) tries to buy the Promised Land (rated R) from John Krasinski (NBC’s The Office) in a new drama from director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting).

Damon and Krasinski also wrote the screenplay for the film.
