Weekend Movie Update – Dec. 14, 2012: Return of 'The Hobbit'
Director Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) is ready to take you back to Middle-earth, as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey arrives in theaters this week, while The Pioneer hosts the final Twilight.
Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update for the weekend of Dec. 14, 2012!
Following four hugely successful films, the popular Twilight Saga teen vampire franchise concludes with Breaking Dawn Part 2 (rated PG13), opening at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, starting this Friday for a one week run.

Bilbo, Gandalf, and Gollum are all back on the big screen in this week’s only new release, the first part of Peter Jackson’s prequel trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (rated PG13), premiering Thursday night at midnight and opening Friday at KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills.
The epic fantasy based on the JRR Tokien novel stars Martin Freeman (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) as Bilbo Baggins, along with Lord of the Rings alumni Ian McKellen (X-Men), Andy Serkis (King Kong), Cate Blanchett (Robin Hood) , Hugo Weaving (The Matrix), Christopher Lee (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones), Elijah Wood (Sin City), and Ian Holm (Alien), who originally played the older version of Bilbo in the Rings films.
Richard Armitage (Captain America) heads an assortment of new cast members as the dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield, long with Ken Stott (King Arthur), Graham McTavish (Rambo), and James Nesbitt (Bloody Sunday).
