Weekend Movie Update – Dec. 19, 2018: ‘Aquaman’ Splashes into Theaters

Aquaman gets his own solo movie in theaters this week, but the superhero is facing a lot of competition at the box office, as other big names like Mary Poppins and Bumblebee are also arriving for the holidays.

Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update for the extended Christmas week of Dec. 19, 2018!

Disney brings back a family favorite for a whole new generation in the sequel Mary Poppins Returns (rated PG), opening today (Dec. 19) and playing locally at R/C Theatres in Kill Devil Hills.

Starring Emily Blunt in the title role, you can watch the official trailer below.

DC’s iconic king of Atlantis, Aquaman (rated PG13), is the sixth film in the DC Extended Universe, following Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League, and to be followed by next year’s Shazam!.

Starring Jason Momoa as the titular hero, Aquaman officially opens on Friday, playing locally at R/C Theatres in Kill Devil Hills, with three early preview screenings scheduled for Thursday (Dec. 20) at 5, 8, and 10pm.

Also new this week, the 1980s-set prequel Bumblebee (PG13) hopes to bring some much needed heart and welcome nostalgia to the Transformers franchise, officially opening Friday at R/C Theatres in Kill Devil Hills, with preview screenings on Thursday (Dec. 20) at 5:10, 7:40, and 10:10pm.

Starring Jennifer Lopez, the romantic comedy Second Act (rated PG13) opens on Friday, also playing locally at R/C Theatres in Kill Devil Hills, with early preview screenings on Thursday (Dec. 20) at 5:20, 7:40, and 9:50pm.

Opening on Christmas Day:

Going into next week, the comedy Holmes & Watson (rated PG13), starring Will Farrell and John C. Reilly, opens on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, at R/C Theatres in Kill Devil Hills.
