Shag Club’s Harvest Dance Raises $5.3k For Outer Banks Relief Foundation

Posted By on December 13, 2016

Everyone who attended the Outer Banks Shag Club’s 24th Annual Harvest Benefit Dance (pictured below) on November 19th had lots of fun dancing and bidding for items in a wonderful silent auction at the Comfort Inn South in Nags Head.  Most importantly, this exciting and enjoyable event raised $5,362 for a very worthy cause – to financially assist the families of Luke Sawyer and Milo Rosales, ages 8 and 9, who were involved in a tragic car accident earlier this year.

The Outer Banks Shag Club would like to thank the numerous local businesses, residents, and shag club members who donated items for the silent auction and raffle. The proceeds were presented to the OBRF in memory of Outer Banks Shag Club members, Vernon Bruffey, Marty Littman, and Sue Mason.  Sue helped organize this dance up until a few weeks before her passing.   A special thanks is extended to Jack and Loretta Fertal, who co-chaired the event and their committee of incredible volunteers.

The Outer Banks Relief Foundation (OBRF) is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization that was established in late 2005.  Their mission is to assist citizens in our Outer Banks community who are burdened with financial difficulties due to a debilitating disease or illness, or a personal tragedy to themselves and/or familites.  Since 2005, over $1,450,000 has been given locally to people in need.  For more information on getting assistance from or donating to the OBRF, call 252/261-2004 or visit their website at www.outerbanksrelieffoundation.com.

The purpose of the Outer Banks Shag Club is to promote and preserve Shag Dancing and Carolina Beach Shag Music.  The club provides members and guests with dance opportunities; offers instruction both to beginners and more experienced members; sponsors local events; sponsors charity events; and promotes the events of other shag clubs.  The club meets on Monday evenings at Kelly’s Restaurant and Tavern in Nags Head from 6-9 p.m.
