[ECSC] VA Beach Hosts 50th East Coast Surfing Championships
America’s longest running professional surfing competition and the second oldest in the world, the East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year as the country’s only six-star rated Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) contest, with a full schedule of events happening at the Virginia Beach oceanfront this week.
Sponsored by Coastal Edge and the Virginia Beach Jaycees, the 50th Annual ECSC begins this Monday, August 20 and runs through this Sunday, August 26 on the beach at the First Street Jetty in Virginia Beach, VA.
In addition to the pro and amateur surfing action, there will be professional skatebording exhibitions, bodyboarding and volleyball tournaments, and a ton of live entertainment on stage, including the annual Miss ECSC Swimsuit Pageant.
This year’s musical headliners include Aragon Project and Breathe Carolina on Friday night, the Aggrolites and Donavon Frankenreiter on Saturday night, and the Right On Band wrapping it up on Sunday afternoon, plus many other bands on multiple stages throughout the week.
Surfer/singer/songwriter Frankenreiter will be live locally this week as well, with a warm up gig at Kelly’s in Nags Head this Wednesday, August 22.
