Spring Scare Fair

The first ever Outer Banks Spring Scare Fair is coming to Secret Island in Kill Devil Hills, featuring two days of spooky treats, creepy curiosities, monster photo ops, and more from a curated collection of local and visiting vendors specializing in the strange and unusual.

The Spring Scare Fair is happening on Friday and Saturday, April 19th and 20th, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Secret Island Restaurant in Kill Devil Hills. Formerly known as Port O’ Call, the venue is an iconic local landmark with Victorian era architecture, a gaslight-style saloon, and the oldest nightclub on the Outer Banks. And it is haunted.

Special guests include writer/artist and state wrestling champion Jeremiah Derby, who has created an original horror mini-comic inspired by The Lost Colony, available exclusively for the first time at the Scare Fair. Learn more about the comic here!

A former costume designer on the Discovery Channel series A Haunting and The Lost Colony producer Lance Culpepper will be at the Halloween Film Festival table on Friday from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., and local author/composer/filmmaker A.P. Sessler will be at the Halloween Film Festival table on Saturday.

Makeup artist Evelyn Gallagher, who worked on the locally produced films Boy! and Night of the Fluffet, will be offering face painting for all, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on both days, also at the Halloween Film Festival table.

As a special treat, Skull Soup, of Pittsburgh, PA, has donated a creepy cool package of their handmade products, including a “Harm” Bracelet of slasher-themed weapons, to be raffled off to one lucky winner. Each of the seven charms are hand cut from steel, the handles are made from maple wood, and the “blood” is painted with spray paint. The bracelet itself is a Byzantine weave chain maille constructed from hand cut jump rings made of steel and nickel plated copper.

The retail value of the “Harm” Bracelet is estimated at $80. A skull key chain, stickers, and more have also been donated by Skull Soup for the giveaway. Raffle tickets will be sold at the Scare Fair for $3 each or $5 for two, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Halloween International Film Festival, held annually in Kill Devil Hills. A winner will be drawn at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

This "Harm" Bracelet by Skull Soup will be raffled off to one lucky winner at the Outer Banks Spring Scare Fair, April 20th, in Kill Devil Hills, with the proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets to benefit the locally produced Halloween International Film Festival.
