Apparent Drowning Reported on Hatteras Island May 28

A 46-year-old male from Falls Church, Virginia died in an apparent drowning at the south end of Hatteras Island on the evening of Friday, May 28, according to report released today from the National Park Service.

The report states that at 9:34 p.m. on Friday, May 28, a Cape Hatteras National Seashore visitor reported finding a body floating in ocean water at the end of Pole Road, located at the south end of Hatteras Island.

Two Seashore Rangers, Dare County Emergency Medical Services, and Hatteras Island Rescue Squad responded to the incident.

Family members of the 46-year-old male from Falls Church, Virginia stated that he was surf fishing prior to the water-related incident. Ocean conditions in the area were reported to be rough.
