OBX Halloween International Film Festival Returns Oct. 26-28

The 2nd Halloween International Film Festival returns to Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina October 26-28, 2017 during HalloWeek on the Outer Banks, presented by Halloween Daily News and OBX Entertainment, featuring independent films submitted from around the world, followed by the 4th Annual Outer Banks Halloween Parade on Sunday, Oct. 29.

Highlights of this year’s feature films include 3 Dead Trick or Treaters, an experimental anthology from Canada that features no dialogue, the gritty thriller Charismata from the U.K., a new vision of the classic Edgar Allan Poe story in Steven Berkoff’s Tell Tale Heart, and the genre throwback Close Calls with lead actress Jordan Phipps in attendance for a Q&A on Thursday night Oct. 26.

Rounding out the feature film category is the sci-fi mindbender Future, the debut film from director Rob Cousineau, who will be in attendance at the festival on Saturday Oct. 28, and the tale of a hungry Bigfoot in Sightings, from North Carolina-based filmmaker Dallas Morgan, who will also be in attendance for his screening at 2pm on Thursday Oct. 26.

We also have a strong collection of 40 short films screening over the three-day festival, including the clown terror of Balloon, the gothic horror of Ceatures of Whitechapel, the awesomely fun Oh, The Effing Horror, hilarious horror comedies Blood Sisters from Australia and The Barber’s Cut from the U.K., and the North Carolina Premiere of the stunning stop-motion animated The Funhouse Waltz from New Zealand.

In addition to the features 3 Dead Trick or Treaters and Future, both of which take place during our favorite holiday, the Halloween section of the festival also includes the short films Dark Roast, Samhainophobia, The Haunt, The Cute Girl’s Guide to Halloween, and They Live Inside Us.

There are a total of 13 films screening that were made in North Carolina, including four shorts filmed on the historic Outer Banks, where the festival takes place – the award-winning Lost in Buffalo City, the tech nightmare Let’s Go, the World Premiere of the animated music video The Cthulhu Candidate, and the World Premiere of a dystopian look at the future in The Transgressor, each with the filmmakers in attendance.

The film festival culminates with a special Showcase screening of the new sequel The Houses October Built 2 as the closing film.

We are especially excited to bring this film to our festival, not only because we are huge fans of the first Houses, but also because a third of the new film actually takes place on the Outer Banks, North Carolina, where the Halloween Film Festival is happening. Though the Outer Banks scenes were not filmed locally, it is pretty great to see our small island area represented in such a prominent way on screen.

Houses director and co-star Bobby Roe tells Halloween Daily News exclusively, “I’m excited that The Houses October Built 2 will be part of the Halloween International Film Festival at the end of this month. These movies have always been a love letter to Halloween and haunted houses above anything else. So the audience of HIFF is a perfect place to watch this adventure together. And even more of a bonus is the third acts takes place in the Outer Banks.

“I was born in South Carolina, so the coast of the Carolinas has always been special to me growing up and the remote location of the Outer Banks was the perfect spot for the finale because of it’s remoteness and mystery.

Roe said he originally tried to set the finale of the sequel more specifically in Kill Devil Hills (where the film festival takes place), but thought people “wouldn’t believe that a city had that badass of a name.”

He added, “Unfortunately, we did not actually shoot in the Outer Banks for production purposes but at the end of the day, it is a big part of our lore, and The Blue Skeleton lore will only get bigger.”

Film submissions were accepted through Film Freeway, from January 20 through July 20.

Films were submitted in the Short Film category if 50 minutes or less, or the Feature Film category for those with a run time of more than 50 minutes.

All Festival film screenings will once again be shown at RC Theatres Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills, with additional events happening throughout the three days, including special guest Q&A panels, meet and greets, and photo ops with our visiting filmmakers on our Orange Carpet. The 2017 Halloween International Film Festival will be followed by the 4th Annual Outer Banks Halloween Parade of Costumes and pre-parade party on Sunday, October 29, 2017 on the outside lawn at Kelly’s Restaurant and Tavern in Nags Head. Film Festival tickets are priced at $12 for a single day or $30 for a three-day pass for admission to all screenings and Q&A panels, now on sale at the box office at R/C Theatres and online at MovieTickets.com.

DISCOUNT HOTEL ROOMS

The Sea Ranch Resort is the official hotel of the 2017 Halloween International Film Festival and Outer Banks Halloween Parade. Attendees to both events should use the discount code “OBFF” when making reservations online or mention the group “Halloween Film Fest” when booking a room over the phone to take advantage of our special discount rates.

There is a two-night minimum required to receive the discount during the weekend through online reservations, however, those who wish to stay only one night and still receive the discount should call the hotel at 252-441-7126 to check availability. Be sure to mention the discount code when you call.

The historic Sea Ranch is located in the heart of Kill Devil Hills, on the oceanfront with beach access right outside the door and just minutes away from the Film Festival screening theater. Amenities at the hotel include an indoor pool and the Beashside Bistro restaurant.

The room block rates are good from Wednesday, Oct. 25 through Tuesday, Oct. 31.
