Outer Banks Women’s Club Launches 2015 Christmas Angel Gift Project

It’s Outer Banks Woman’s Club Angel Gift Program time again. Shown below is the late Julia Haywood (left) and Gwen White (right), the project co-founders in 1987. With them two years ago, is Emily Lewis (center) with Village Realty, a large annual contributor to the Angel Gift Project.

The Outer Banks Woman’s Club, Haywood and White have worked tirelessly on this project for many years. While Haywood is no longer with us in person, we know she is with us in spirit as the Angel Gifts Project begins its 28th year. White continues as chairman.

Last year more than 450 children were provided with their Christmas gifts. Former donors will soon receive a request for 2015 funds which can be in the form of a donation or a child or family sponsorship.

This year the club expects the numbers to grow because the other organization that has helped in recent years, the Outer Banks Hotline, will not be participating this year. They have asked the woman’s club to handle the full program. Hotline has announced they will no longer do so because it isn’t in their Mission Statement.

Parents that need help buying gifts for their children need to complete an application at the Dare County Department of Social Services offices in Manteo. Applications will be taken Oct. 26 through Nov.13th. The Nov. 13th date is an absolute deadline for this program. Please note that the OBWC is the only organization providing presents for the Angel Gift Program.

The Outer Banks Woman’s Club is a 501 (C) 3 tax exempt organization. For more information and making a donation, call Gwen White at (252) 441-4966 or (252) 202-2329. Family sponsorships will be available on Nov. 1- contact Gwen White for those names. Donations are also being accepted in memory of Julia Haywood. Donations can be mailed to OBWC, PO Box 102, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
