Aliens attack in the form of classic arcade video games in theaters this week, while a Southpaw hits the ring, Paper Towns showcase North Carolina, and Minions take over the historic Pioneer.

Minions (rated PG) are in search of an evil leader the animated comedy prequel to Despicable Me, starting a two-week run at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo through August 6.

Showtime at the Pioneer is 8pm nightly.

Also, happening this today, July 24, the Outer Banks Children at Play Museum is once again presenting free family film screenings every Friday this summer as part of the Movies on the Sound program, continuing this week with the comedy classic The Princess Bride (rated PG). Click here for a preview!

Adam Sandler (Happy Gilmore) and his pals play former video game champions from the ’80s who are called out of retirement to save the world when attacking aliens take the form of classic game characters like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong in the new comedy Pixels (rated PG13).

Filmed throughout Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Gaston, and New Hanover counties, North Carolina, the romantic drama Paper Towns, based on the best selling novel by John Green (The Fault in Our Stars), also opens today in Kill Devil Hills.
