Daryl Hance And Turchi To Play Kelly's, Nags Head [Concert Preview]
Kelly’s in Nags Head is hosting the “Kudzu Swamp Spectacular” this weekend, featuring a concert double bill including the Dary Hance Power Trio and Turchi.
Turchi and Daryl Hance are currently on a co-headlining tour of North Carolina, both supporting new albums.
Daryl Hance recently released Land Of Trembling Earth, while Turchi is supporting Can’t Bury Your Past.
Bucket Full of Nails says, “Turchi cook up a swampy gumbo of blues and Memphis soul, highlighted by killer slide-guitar grooves,” and Indy Weekly raves, “like ZZ Top fuzz choked out by weeds, though a few lysergic licks leach through. Dr. John-like hoodoo vocals over a swampy, psychedelic guitar lifted from Tony Joe White’s back pages. The record rolls like the Mississippi hills, but Turchi—born wanderers who travel to the Triangle so often they seem more local than regional—embraces multiple Deep South strains.”
Free Times says, “Daryl Hance’s music is appropriately swampy, a brackish blend of Luther Dickinson grit, Fogerty brothers choogle and Dex Romweber twang. The sweltering jams are thick with humidity and, as we all know, it’s not really about the heat, but the humidity.”
JJ Grey, hot off his Mustang Music Festival performance last weekend, says, “Daryl Hance’s record is unbelievable! As thick and real as it gets. Moving from beautiful laments to haunting bluesy rock bombs, grooving nastily while spitting
and grinding away with the ferocity of a busted chainsaw.”
You can see the Daryl Hance Power Trio and Turchi in concert at Kelly’s Outer Banks Restaurant and Tavern in Nags Head this Sunday, October 19.
