The Embers Bring NC Beach Music to Shallowbag Festival [Concert Preview]

The first ever Shallowbag Shag Beach Music Festival is coming to the Outer Banks this Memorial Day to officially kick off the local summer music season, with an all-star lineup of talent, including the legendary Embers, The Tams, Jim Quick & Coastline, The Holiday Band, and The Carolina Breakers, live in concert at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo.

Raleigh, North Carolina icons The Embers have helped define the beach music genre for more than five decades, touring almost non-stop since 1958.

The current lineup of the band includes: Bobby Tomlinson – Band Leader/Founder/Drums; Craig Woolard-Lead Vocals/ Saxophone, Tenor, Baro, Alto, Soprano-Flute; Andy Swindell-Keyboards/lead Vocals; Stephen Pachuta – Trumpet/Flugel Horn/Vocals/Organ/Percussion; Jeff Grimes – Guitar/Sax/Vocal; Hugh Tuff Blanton – Bass Guitar/Vocals/Webmaster; and Bobby Nantz-Trumpet/Trombone/Lead Vocals.

The group is currently celebrating the release of The Embers: The Heart and Soul of Beach Music, a two-hour documentary about the career of the band, told in their own words.

The innaugural Shallowbag Shag Beach Music Festival is happening on Memorial Day, this Monday, May 26 in the outdoor pavilion at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo.

The gates will open at 11am, with music starting at noon and The Embers scheduled to hit the stage at 5pm.

In addition to special VIP seating available, there will also be a dance area. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 for general admission, or $60 for VIP seating (which includes seating in front of the stage, preferred parking on the Island and a festival bag). Tickets can be purchased the day of the event at the gate for $30.

Island parking is limited, festival attendees may park at Manteo High School. Shuttles will run every 15 minutes from the High School to the concert location beginning at 11am.

The event is rain or shine, however, in the unlikely event the festival is cancelled due to weather, tickets will be good for any upcoming Shallowbag Shag Beach Music Festival within the next two years.
