Posted By on August 12, 2013

In celebration of the 426th birthday of Virginia Dare, the first English child born in the new world, The Lost Colony will host its annual Virginia Dare Faire this Friday, August 16th from 10am to 1pm.  This year’s event will take place in the oval picnic area near the theatre parking lot.  The Faire is Free of charge and open to children of all ages.

The Lost Colony has worked particularly close this year with the National Park Service to ensure not only a fun day for the entire family, but some education as well.

Activities will vary widely from a leap frog tournament, to an area where kids will be encouraged to create their own family crest.  Bead work, coloring and hut weaving will be just a sampling of the hands on activities.

The Lost Colony and the National Park Service will lead a tour of the grounds of the theatre and the Thomas Harriott Nature Trail.

To finish off the day, cake and ice cream will be served in the Waterside Theatre rains helter area, where members of the cast will be present as well as representatives from the National Park Service.

The Dare Faire is part of The Lost Colony’s annual daylong celebration of Virginia Dare’s birthday.  At that evening’s performance of The Lost Colony features live babies in the role of Virginia Dare.  This year’s Virginia Dare babies will be added to a long list of dignified alumni who participated in the historic drama at a very early age. Many of them will go on to serve the show and their community in the years to come just as their parents and grandparents have before them.  This yearly tradition has become a much anticipated event on the Outer Banks.

Vantage South Bank is the proud sponsor of the 2013 Virginia Dare Day festivities.
