Entry Call for 35th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show

The 35th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is coming to Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery this January, and the Dare County Arts Council is currently looking for entries.

Frank Stick Memorial Art Show

All Dare County artists are invited to submit their artwork to the 35th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show, which will be featured at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery January 26-February 22, 2013.

Started in 1978 by Dare County Arts Council, the Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is the longest running visual art exhibition in the county and includes a wide variety of local fine art ranging from conceptual to realistic.

“Frank Stick was a man of vision. We are honored to keep his vision alive by inviting local artists to participate in this renowned show that celebrates his passion,” said Executive Director of Dare County Arts Council Chris Sawin.

An opening reception and awards ceremony will be January 26, 2013 from 6-8pm at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery.

Over $1,500 in cash awards will be offered, including Best in Show, Excellence, and Honorable Mention. A People’s Choice award winner will be selected by public ballot during the opening reception. All other cash award winners will be selected by the judges based solely on merit. The 2013 judges are Sarah Searcy and Amanda Nicholas.

Searcy graduated with an honors MA in sociology from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, after completing a fieldwork-based thesis in India. She has taught English in New Delhi, India, attended Penland School of Crafts as a William R. Kenan Fellow, and interned with the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. Nicholas works with a variety of media, including drawing, painting, and monotype printmaking. She received her MFA in Drawing from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and her BFA from East Carolina University.

All artwork must be received at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery between 10 am and 5 pm on January 22 or 23, 2013. Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery is located at 210 E. Driftwood Street in Nags Head. Hatteras Island artists are asked to drop of their work at Koru Village in Avon on January 21, 2013 between 10am and 4pm.

A non-refundable fee of $20 per artist ($35 for Non-Arts Council Members) is due upon delivery of work. Artists can join the Dare County Arts Council at the time of delivery.
