Experience Christmas Past at Island Farm in Manteo

Posted By on November 19, 2012

Island Farm c.1847 in Manteo is celebrating Christmas Past this season with a day of holiday festivities planned for the whole family.

The event unwraps on Saturday, December 8, starting at 10am with the arrival of Santa Claus via ox-drawn wagon, delivering the farm’s Christmas tree and traditional Christmas goose.

Visitors can enjoy a wagon ride with Santa from 10:30am to 12:30pm, and can give the jolly one in red their wish lists from 2 to 3:30pm inside the farmhouse by a warm fire, where hot cider and ginger cookies will be served.

You can also sample the foods of a 19th Century Christmas feast and watch the goose being prepared in the cookhouse, and make your own cornhusk doll ornament and candle to take home.

From 11:30am until 3:30pm, there will be vigenette performances every 30 minutes of A Christmas Gift by Director of the Theatre Program and Associate Professor of Theatre at Elizabeth City State University Billica Hines and drama student Shalisa Spence.

Admission is $8 for adults and free for children ages 5 and under.
