Weekend Movie Update – July 6, 2012
Reigning pop music star Katy Perry and maverick director Oliver Stone try to take down The Amazing Spider-Man this week, while the wild things of Madagascar swing into The Pioneer.
Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update for the weekend of July 6, 2012.
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (rated PG) opens at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, starting this Saturday for a one week run.
The animated film reunites many of the voice talents from the first two films (including Ben Stiller and Chris Rock) for more of the same family friendly laughs.

The biggest new release of the week actually opened on Tuesday, but The Amazing Spider-Man (rated PG13), now playing in Kill Devil Hills and Avon, is expected to continue smashing all previous box office records will into this weekend.
The Sony Pictures reboot features Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) taking over the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, as directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer).
The film also stars Emma Stone (Zombieland, The Help), Dennis Leary (Rescue Me), Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now), Sally Field (Forrest Gump), Amber Stevens (who filmed the thriller Jessabelle in Wilmington, NC earlier this year), and Rhys Ifans (The Five-Year Engagement) as the mutated villain The Lizard.

Also new in theaters this week, Katy Perry’s 3D concert film Part of Me (rated PG13) opened today (July 5) at KDH Movies 10 Kill Devil Hills and Hatteras Movies 4 in Avon.

This week’s other new release is the latest violent crime saga from director Oliver Stone (Platoon, The Doors, Natural Born Killers).
Savages (rated R) stars John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction), Benicio Del Toro (The Usual Suspects, The Wolfman), Salma Hayek (From Dusk Till Dawn), and Blake Lively (Green Lantern).
