Blackbeard – Pirate of the Outer Banks
Edward Teach – also known as “Blackbeard” – is the most nortorious pirate in history.
Blackbeard was killed off the coast of Ocracoke Island, North Carolina on November 22, 1718, but his legend has endured for three centuries.
In pop culture, the legendary pirate was first portrayed in the movies by Robert Newton (Treasure Island) in the 1952 film Blackbeard the Pirate.

Blackbeard was also the the subject of the 1968 Disney film Blackbeard’s Ghost, starring two-time Academy Award Winner Peter Ustinov (Spartacus, Topkapi) as the pirate’s undead spirit set free in modern times.
The 2006 BBC / History Channel miniseries Blackbeard: Terror at Sea stars James Purefoy, of FOX’s hit series The Following, in the title role.
Another TV miniseries entitled simply Blackbeard also premiered on June 17, 2006 on the Hallmark Channel, starring Angus Macfadyen (Braveheart, Saw III) as the infamous pirate, as well as future Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain (The Help, Zero Dark Thirty).
In 2011, Blackbeard was memorably portrayed by actor Ian McShane (Deadwood) in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Most recently, it was announced the John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich) would portray the infamous pirate in NBC’s upcoming series Crossbones, which is set to premiere in 2014.
