Watch Clip from ‘Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks Showdown’ Season 9 Premiere [Exclusive]
The locally filmed National Geographic Channel (NatGeo) reality competition series Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks returns for its ninth season this weekend, and we are excited to debut an exclusive clip from the season premiere episode.
Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks originally premiered in 2014 as Wicked Tuna: North vs. South, taking audiences into the lives of Southern commercial fishermen trying to make a living off the coast of North Carolina’s Outer Banks as they were pitted against fan-favorite captains from the first three seasons of the flagship Wicked Tuna series, which takes place in Gloucester, Massachusetts. A name change in Season 2 switched the title to Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks, but the competitive essence remained.
Season 9 is officially called Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks Showdown.
On Sunday, July 17th at 9/8c, Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks Showdown returns for a ninth season with back to back episodes. After a year-long hiatus, the top captains from Gloucester return to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to battle it out against the best bluefin tuna fishermen in the South.
At 9/8c, the first episode, entitled “Northern Invasion” premieres, with Northern champions Hot Tuna, FV-Tuna.com, and Pinwheel returning to face their Southern rivals Fishin’ Frenzy, Little Shell, and Reel E’ Bugging to prove who is the best of the best.
The premiere episode includes an intense scene in which captains on the Fishin’ Frenzy and Reel E’ Bugging boats race to the dock to try to lock in the first catch of the season, which you can watch below.
Immediately after the season premiere, a second new episode, entitled “Danger Zone”, is airing at 10/9c. In that episode, with the Battle of Champions underway, Reel E’ Bugging takes a huge gamble to get ahead when they try to cross the bar in dangerous conditions. Meanwhile, the Northern fleet attempts to bounce back from their slow start using every tactic they can think of to close the gap with the Southern boats.
Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks Showdown Season 9 premieres with two new episodes this Sunday, July 17, starting at 9:00 p.m. on National Geographic.
