With Tropical Storm Claudette expected to move over eastern North Carolina Sunday evening, June 20, into Monday morning, June 21, a tropical storm watch is in effect for all of Dare County. This indicates that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.

The greatest threats are anticipated to be heavy rain with the potential for flash flooding, isolated tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, and minor coastal flooding. The threat of rip currents will be heightened and beachgoers are advised to heed all surf zone advisories.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor updated weather forecasts, as there remains uncertainty with the exact track and strength of the system.

Updated information is available from the National Hurricane Center and our local National Weather Service office.

We will continue to update this post as needed.
