NPS Outer Banks Sites Go Digital
Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and Wright Brothers National Memorial are pleased to announce several new ways for visitors to digitally connect with their national park sites.
National Park Service (NPS ) Mobile App
The recently released NPS mobile app, available for free download in the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, gives the public up-to-date information about all 423 national parks in one easy-to-use app. Visitors to the Outer Banks are encouraged to download the app ahead of their trips.
Audio Tours
Included in the NPS mobile app are new audio tours available for Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Wright Brothers National Memorial. These walking audio tours lead visitors to the major highlights of each area and are a great way to learn about the rich history and natural resources of the three parks.
Calendar of Events
The NPS mobile app is also the best place to find up-to-date information on ranger-guided interpretive programs for the upcoming summer season. By using the calendar within the app, visitors can see all options to explore their national park sites with a park ranger. This summer’s offerings will include ranger talks, guided hikes, bicycle tours and more.
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Virtual Tour
A virtual tour is now available that allows visitors both onsite and across the world to virtually experience a climb of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and explore multiple 360-degree views from the lighthouse. The tour also features historic images and educational information. View the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse virtual tour at www.nps.gov/hdp/exhibits/caha/
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Webcam
In partnership with Outer Banks Forever, a webcam was recently placed on the top of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, allowing visitors to check out the view from the top of the 197-foot lighthouse and observe weather and beach conditions. View the webcam at www.obxforever.org/obx-
Permits, Campground Reservations and Entrance Fees
Off-road vehicle permits, camping reservations and payments, and advance entrance fees to Wright Brothers National Memorial, are all available to purchase at www.recreation.gov.
