Netflix’s ‘Outer Banks’ Series Trailer, Premiere Date Revealed
Netflix has released the first official trailer for their new young adult drama series Outer Banks, which was filmed in South Carolina and set locally on North Carolina’s Outer Banks during a hurricane.
The series, a coming of age story about four teenagers in “a fictional Outer Banks town” when a hurricane cuts all power and communication to the islands, was created by Wilmington, NC resident Jonas Pate, who originally wanted to film the project in North Carolina.
After deep negotiations last year, Netflix reportedly passed on bringing the production to North Carolina because of the remnants of House Bill 2, the infamous “bathroom bill” that pushed numerous production companies away because of its anti-LGBTQ language. The bill was eventually partially repealed, but some parts of it remained in a replacement bill called HB142, including a clause forbidding municipalities from passing an ordinance excluding them from the bill’s restrictions, which was a particular deal-breaker for Netflix.
It was ultimately shot in Charleston, South Carolina.
The story follows a tight-knit group of local teens (the “Pogues”) on the Outer Banks. When a hurricane kills the power for the summer season, it sets off a chain of illicit events that force the friends to make life-altering decisions, according to Deadline. The search for their ringleader’s missing father, forbidden romances, a high-stakes treasure hunt, and the escalating conflict between the Pogues and their rivals turn their summer into one filled with mystery and adventure they’re sure to never forget.
The 10-episode series stars Chase Stokes (Stranger Things), Madison Bailey (Black Lightning), Madelyn Cline (Stranger Things, Vice Principals), Rudy Pankow, Austin North, Jonathan Daviss, Charles Esten (Nashville, Big Love, The Office), and Adina Porter (American Horror Story, True Blood).
Outer Banks will premiere on Netflix on April 15.
