‘Kill Devil Hills’ Horror Film Trailer Unveiled

The new independent horror film Kill Devil Hills, shot partially on the Outer Banks, just unveiled an official trailer, giving us our first look at a mad hunt for lost treasure.

Gold, greed, and wrath surface in a deadly beach town, according to the previously released synopsis for the feature-length film, which was written, produced, and directed by Butch Maier and executive produced by Stanley Aughtry and Anthony Duncan.

The trailer was fittingly released on Friday the 13th. “I grew up watching horror movies from the ’70s and ’80s, including ‘Friday the 13th,’ so it felt appropriate to release the trailer on that day,” Maier said.

Maier previously directed the feature comedies Mother of a Day (2019) and The Bride and The Grooms (2009).

Sarah Kate Allsup stars in the film, along with a cast that also includes Ashlyn Musser, Shelby Johnson, E.P. Macalma, Zay Perry, Karen M. Bryson, Ron Bianchi, Chris Korkalo, Stephen Carlson, Leon Griffin, and longtime Tidewater, Virginia TV news anchor Regina Mobley.

The plot revolves around a group of friends who wonder if a treasure is buried in the Outer Banks, but when they start digging for answers in the sand dunes, trouble soon finds them by way of town locals.

While the majority of the production was filmed in Virginia Beach with director of photography Sergio M. Lorenzana, Maier tells us that all of the drone footage used was filmed on location in Kill Devil Hills and other areas of the Outer Banks by Dave Morrison of Kill Devil Drones.

The trailer gives us an idea of the tone and look of the feature, promising “the hills are alive with the sounds of murder”.

The film is expected to be released in October.
