Taste of the Beach 2017 Grand Tasting Award Winners Announced

The 2017 Outer Banks Taste of the Beach took place last week, culminating with the annual Grand Tasting on Sunday evening, where various awards were presented to some of our favorite participating local restaurants. 

The Sysco Foods Grand Tasting & Bartenders Bubbly Bash was held on Sunday, March 26 at Port O’ Call Restaurant in Kill Devil Hills. 

Every restaurant brought their “A” game and it was obvious in every bite.

The upstairs Bartenders Bubbly Bash was a big hit again, with Lucky 12 Tavern and their bartender Glenn taking home the prize for the second year in a row with their champagne cocktail and a whopping $347.30 in cash tips.

Judges Award:

Best In Show – Cravings, with Rockfish Ceviche Taco with jicama slaw & chili lime mayo

2nd place – Ocean Boulevard, with Poached NC Shrimp with bacon cornbread, lemon vinaigrette dressed arugula

3rd Place – Black Pelican,  with Ancho-seared sea scallop with saffron buerre blanc & microgreens

 

Chef’s Award (by Chefs for Chefs):

Cravings, with Rockfish Ceviche Tacos with jicama slaw & chili lime mayo

 

Best Booth Presentation:

Ocean Boulevard

 

People’s Choice Awards:

Best Dish – The Jolly Roger, with Southern style crab cake over bacon succotash and fire roasted red pepper aioili

2nd Place – Black Pelican,  with Ancho-seared sea scallop with saffron buerre blanc & microgreens

3rd Place – Roosters Southern Kitchen, with Scallop BLT

Best Dessert – Kelly’s Restaurant, with crème brulee, raspberry mousse, and peanut butter chocolate chip soufflé

2nd Place – Café Lachine, with French macarons

3rd Place – Cravings, with Pistachio crème brulee
