Outer Banks Halloween Parade Adds Cosplay Category, Online Registration

Posted By on October 12, 2016

The 3rd Annual Outer Banks Halloween Parade of Costumes returns to Kelly’s in Nags Head, NC on Sunday, October 30, 2016, presented by OBX Entertainment and Halloween Daily News, and we are excited to announce the addition of a new costume contest category for cosplay entries that have created their costumes themselves.

The new Cosplay category is for custom-made, non-store-bought costumes and will be judged to higher standards than the other categories based on creativity, effort, likeness, and presentation, among other elements. This category should be considered for our more serious “professional level” entries and those traveling in from out of town.

The first place winner in the cosplay category will receive two weekend passes to the 2017 Mad Monster Party horror and pop culture convention in Rock Hill, South Carolina, a professional costume photo shoot by Artz Music & Photography, and a gallery showcase and feature story on HalloweenDailyNews.com, the internet’s leading source for all things Halloween.

Also new for 2016, you can now pre-register online for the parade and costume contest here.

On site registration for the parade opens and the pre-parade Halloween Festival begins at 2pm, featuring live entertainment, special guests, trick or treating, and another new addition for 2016, The Great Pumpkin Contest.

The walking parade around the Kelly’s property will begin at 3pm. Those who do not wish to walk in the parade can watch and cheer it on in the spectators area located in the Kelly’s front lawn. Everyone attending the event is encouraged to dress in costume in the spirit of the season.

All costume contest entries must be registered to participate in the parade and to be eligible for prizes.

Everyone who registers to walk in the Parade will be entered into the Costume Contest, with the winners to be announced during an Awards Ceremony immediately following the Parade. You must be present and remain in costume until the winners are announced in order to claim any prizes.

Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes among the parade entries in various categories and age groups, including Best Male and Female 5 and under; Best Male and Female 6-12; Best Male and Female 13-adult; Best Couple; and Best Family/Group Costumes, plus our new Cosplay/Custom-made category for our more serious “professional level” entries.

Admission to this rain or shine event is free for anyone wearing a Halloween costume.

The mission of the Parade of Costumes is to provide a safe and positive celebration of Halloween and its traditions, for Outer Banks locals and visitors alike, and Halloween lovers worldwide, with live entertainment and loads of fun for adults and kids of all ages.

This year we are adding an all new event to the festivities, offering yet another spirited, artistic avenue of expressing all the fun of our favorite season, introducing The Great Pumpkin Contest, sponsored by our friends at Outer Banks Entrepreneurs

Entries in the Great Pumpkin Contest are pre-prepared jack-o-lanterns that can be hand carved, hand painted, or otherwise “dressed”/decorated to be judged in categories that include scariest, funniest, and most creative.

The winning pumpkin entries in each category will receive a special basket of treats and goodies from Outer Banks Entrepreneurs. Click HERE for full details on The Great Pumpkin Contest!

We have intercepted an Imperial transmission confirming that The Empire will be patrolling the 2016 Outer Banks Halloween Parade of Costumes, as The Emperor is sending a deployment of his most loyal troops from the 501st Legion Carolina Garrison OBX StormTroopers.

We are thrilled to welcome back The Haunted Hearse, sponsored by Gallop Funeral Services, an authentic final ride decorated to fit the season and available for fun photo ops at the Halloween Parade.

We are also excited to welcome back the revolutionary OBXjetpak and local jetpak pilot Butch Stone to the 3rd Annual Outer Banks Halloween Parade of Costumes, available for viewing and photo ops during the pre-parade Halloween Festival.
