Roosevelt’s Chair Series Presents Author Philip Gerard In Manteo

Posted By on June 13, 2016

You are invited to spend an evening with North Carolina author Philip Gerard, whose latest book Dark of the Island takes place on Hatteras Island and offers the reader two fast paced plots.

The novel is a mystery thriller that delves into the dispute surrounding drilling for oil off the coast and explores the history of WWII off the Outer Banks.

An accomplished writer, Gerard takes Roosevelt’s Chair for an evening of readings, remarks, and more this Thursday, June 16 at 6pm at Dare County Arts Council, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue in Manteo.

The Roosevelt’s Chair Series presents important literary artists and other speakers in the intimate setting of the Dare County Arts Council Gallery at the historic Dare County Courthouse in downtown Manteo. The name of the series is drawn from an armchair that was discovered during the DCAC’s restoration of the building in 2013.  The chair was used by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during his historic visit to the Lost Colony in its inaugural year.

The Roosevelt’s Chair Series is a cooperative project of Dare County Arts Council, the Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series and Downtown Books in Manteo.

For more information about this event visit the official Facebook event page, or contact Dare County Arts Council at [email protected] or call (252) 473-5558.
