Surfalorus Seeks Films For Annual Festival
The Dare County Arts Council announces the official call for entries for the 5th annual Surfalorus Film Festival being held September 15-17 on the Outer Banks.
Surfalorus is a premier collaboration between the Dare County Arts Council and Wilmington, NC-based Cucalorus Film Festival – which will celebrate its 22nd anniversary this fall. Surfalorus is an annual showcase of the year’s coolest surf films and ocean documentaries that started as part of the larger festival and grew into its own event five years ago.
According to Cucalorus Director Dan Brawley, “We’ve been sharing the best surf films with our audiences for over ten years. There’s nothing like watching a film with your friends and then finding out all the gnarly tales about how they got that one shot with the guy on the reef and his board flying through the air or something. We really want anyone who has made a surf film to send us their stuff. This is a showcase for the top talents in surf filmmaking, but also your neighbor who just shot his first little flick. If you make it, we’ll watch it.”
Outer Banks filmmakers, watermen and outdoor enthusiasts can enter their original short and feature film submissions throughcucalorus.org. Deadline for entry is June 23 and “Surfalorus” should be put in the signature section of the online entry form.
The free family-friendly event will feature international, regional, and local surf films screenings at various venues on the Outer Banks. Screening locations and times will be released at a later date.
Other aquatic activities will also take place during Surfalorus, including a surf craft exhibit at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in downtown Manteo.
