Kill Devil Hills Hosting Historic Landmarks Open House
The annual Kill Devil Hills Historic Landmarks Open House self-guided tour of a sampling of the historic homes will begin with a reception at 1pm this Friday, April 22, at the Kill Devil Hills Town Hall.
Two new 2015 historic home designations, Owen Cottage at 2019 S. Virginia Dare Trail and the Young/ Croarkin Cottage at 201 Random Street, will be honored.
Participants will be given a map of the properties and they will have from 2 to 5pm to tour those that are open. Signs will be placed in the yards of those available for touring.
The event is free and open to the public.
Historic homes that are currently on the list include Pappendick-Heath House, 302 N. Va. Dare Trail; Hall House, 2401 N. Va. Dare Trail; Cypress House Inn, 500 N. Va. Dare Trail; Madre-Wollard House, 1229 S. Va. Dare Trail; Brothers Cottage, 1211 B South Va. Dare Trail and Powell-Stokes Cottage at1207 S. Va. Dare Trail. The Historic Landmarks Commission was developed to identify preserve and protect the heritage, history, architecture and culture of the Town of Kill Devil Hills.
Currently, the inventory of Historic Landmarks is 28.
