Dare Arts Council Presents 38th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show
Dare County Arts Council is pleased to present the 38th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show, presented by Southern Insurance Agency.
Established in 1978 by Dare County Arts Council, this is the longest running visual art exhibition in the county and includes a wide variety of local fine art, ranging from conceptual to realistic.
An opening reception and awards ceremony will be Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 6-8pm at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery, located at 210 E. Driftwood Street in Nags Head, NC. The reception will feature hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and live music by Chape Whitman.
Many of the participating artists will also be in attendance. Dare County Arts Council wishes to thank the sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor Southern Insurance Agency, Outer Banks Ace Hardware, The Beach Book, The Blue Point, Cameron House Inn, SAGA Construction & Development, and Village Realty. Special sponsorship is provided by Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery, who host this annual show at their gallery.
Over $2,000 in cash awards will be offered, including Best in Show, Excellence, and Honorable Mention.
A People’s Choice award winner will be selected by public ballot during the opening reception.
All other cash award winners will be selected by the judge based solely on merit. Three of the award-winning works from the show will be featured on 2016 publications by The Beach Book. This year will be the 20th consecutive year that The Beach Book will feature local art on the covers of its publications.
The 2016 judge is artist Scott Eagle, who serves as the Assistant Director of the School of Art and Design, Graduate Studies Director, and Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. His artworks have been exhibited and reproduced internationally. Scott was selected by Creative Quarterly Magazine as one of their top 100 creatives for 2013. He works in a wide variety of medias including digital and is especially interested in the idea of the creative act as thinking through making.
The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is open to artists who are Dare County residents or members of Dare County Arts Council. The show is open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10am – 5pm, from February 2 – 27, 2016.
