Posted By on November 24, 2015

Dare County Arts Council is hosting two special exhibits this holiday season, opening December 6th, featuring the Traveling Exhibit from the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, and DCAC’s Annual Holiday Small Works Show, which highlights the artistic creations of our membership.

The Traveling Exhibit from the Watercolor Society of North Carolina is co-hosted by the Bryan Cultural Series. The Watercolor Society of North Carolina, Inc. (WSNC) is a professional nonprofit art organization whose purpose is to strengthen and promote watercolor throughout the state. Their annual exhibit showcases some of the finest watercolor artists from throughout North Carolina.

The Traveling Exhibition was established to showcase the diversity of watercolor art and improve the public awareness of WSNC. Ten paintings from each of the 3 WSNC geographic areas are selected from the annual exhibit before awards are made. Those paintings are delivered to the venue of next year’s Annual Exhibition, which will open at Dare County Arts Council in October 2016.

“The Bryan Cultural Series is proud to co-host the Watercolor Society of North Carolina’s annual exhibit,” said BCS chairman John Tucker. “We invite everyone in Dare County to view the work of some of North Carolina’s finest artists at the December 6th reception at Dare County Arts Council.”

Also opening on December 6th is Dare County Arts Council’s Annual Holiday Small Works Show. This much anticipated show is the perfect place to discover original fine art and handcraft, all created by local artists, that will please everyone on your gift list during this holiday season.

The show will not only feature original works of art, including paintings, pottery, glass, photography, jewelry, fiber, metal, wood and mixed media, but also ornaments, cards, special edition prints, music, literature and more.

DCAC director Chris Sawin says “The annual small works show is the perfect way to round out your shopping list this season. The creativity in this show is outstanding, and you are not only getting a great gift, but supporting our local artists in the off season. It’s a win for everyone.”

Join DCAC for the opening and a special Collector’s Reception on Sunday, December 6th, from 2 to 4pm.
Be among the first to preview both extraordinary exhibits, enjoy a glass of wine, tasty holiday treats, and hot apple cider. Both exhibits will remain on display through January 9th. Regular gallery hours are 10am – 5pm, Tuesday through Friday, and noon – 4pm on Saturdays. Please call (252) 473-5558 for more information or visit darearts.org.
