‘The Lost Colony’ 78th Season Opens on Outer Banks

Actors, directors, designers, technicians, dancers and singers are in the final days of rehearsal for Paul Green’s The Lost Colony opening for its 78th season on May 29.

Each year, the symphonic drama is reinvented by new actors and technicians who join returning company members to perform The Lost Colony.

The 2015 company is comprised of mostly new actors, with roughly one third of the cast returning to the production. The 2015 company will perform a special preview night performance on Thursday, May 28th. Tickets for the preview night performance are available at a discounted price.

The official opening is on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 7:30 pm

This season’s production is under the direction of Ira David Wood, III who is returning for his third season as Director.  Other returning members of the artistic staff include: William Ivey Long as Production Designer, Robert Midgette as Fight Director, Paul Gallo as Lighting Designer, and Jimmie Lee Brooks, III as Choreographer.

This season of The Lost Colony will feature many local actors including: Don Bridge as Father Martin, Della Basnight as Dame Coleman, Jimmie Lee Brooks, III as Uppowoc, Damien Gregory as Wano, and John Bennett who will be playing King Wingina.

Other featured returning actors include: Clark Helman as Sir Walter Raleigh, Jesse Bates as the Historian, Terry Snead as Governor White, Daniel Gonzalez as Ananias Dare, Robbie McCracken as Manteo, Justin Mitchell Krall as Wanchese, Joe Bach as Simon Fernando, and Nancy Mellichamp Savo as Agona. The Lost Colony welcomes new actors to fulfill the beloved characters of John Borden, Queen Elizabeth, I, Old Tom, and Eleanor Dare.

The Lost Colony continues several traditions in 2015 including its “Dare Night” performances for the residents of Dare County on June 5, 12 and 19.  Dare County residents are encouraged to attend the performance – while continuing to help the Outer Banks food pantries.  Admission to the Dare Night performances is free for Dare County residents who attend and bring at least two can goods or two dry goods as a donation for the Outer Banks food pantries.

Changes to this season’s performance include moving the curtain time for all performances to 7:30pm and The Burning Girl character (played by Corinne Holland) returns this season.

In addition to The Lost Colony, the cast will present its annual children’s show on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from June 16-August 19 at 2PM in the Sound Stage Theatre.  Returning for a second season, Jeremy Jacob and Captain Braid Beard captivate audiences in How I Became A Pirate, based on the book by Melinda Long. 

Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green, The Lost Colony’s 78th anniversary season plays May 29 through August 22, 2015 at Manteo’s Waterside Theatre, on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
