Dare County Arts Council announces a Call for Entry for the 18 th Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show.
The Annual “Mollies” features an eclectic mix of artwork, which will be on display at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in downtown Manteo during the month of May.
This show is held in memory of Mollie Fearing, one of the founders of Dare County Arts Council. This year’s show is hosted by founding sponsor Mollie A. Fearing & Associates of Manteo and presenting sponsor Zillie’s Island Pantry of Ocracoke.
The Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show is open to members of Dare County Arts Council and residents of Dare County age 18 and over. Awards include Best in Show, Excellence Awards and Honorable Mentions, and a People’s Choice Award selected during the opening reception.
Artists wishing to participate in this year’s exhibition can find a prospectus on DCAC’s website www.darearts.org. They are also available at DCAC Gallery.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Supporters of this year’s Mollies include the NC Coastal Federation who will sponsor a new award, the Coastal Heritage Award. This award will be presented to the artist whose work best exemplifies the landscapes, culture, flora and fauna of our coast.
In addition to the $250 award, the winning piece will be used in the Federation’s event publications, including t-shirts, flyers and press releases. The artist’s name will appear on all printed materials, as well as the Federation’s web site and social media pages.
Award winning artist Jesi Pace-Berkeley will be the judge for this year’s show. Born in Radford VA, Jesi currently resides in Blacksburg where she moved after living many years in Tidewater, VA. Jesi is an artist whose paintings are a blend of portraits, figures, landscapes, stilllifes and non-objective “abstracts”. Harnessing a style uniquely her own, Jesi’s powerful paintings evolved from self-instruction.
Captivated by the scale and intensity of her watercolors and acrylic paintings, the viewer quickly understands why Jesi’s work is included in many prestigious collections such as the Chrysler Museum, Southland Corporation, Norfolk and Southern Railroad, Landmark Communications, and The Omni Hotel. She recently served a month here in Dare County as Artist in Residence for The Don and Catherine Bryan Cultural Series.
The opening reception at Dare County Arts Council will be held Sunday, May 3 rd from 2pm-4pm, and will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and live music.
The show will remain on display through Saturday, May 30 th . Gallery hours are 10am – 6pm, Monday through Friday, and noon – 4pm on Saturday.
The gallery is closed on Sundays.
