Roanoke Island Festival Park Announces 2015 Children's Shows

Roanoke Island Festival Park has just announced a number of new family friendly children’s shows coming to the Outer Banks this summer.

The 2015 schedule of kids shows at Roanoke Island Festival Park includes:

Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel by Children’s Theatre of Charlotte – June 17, 18, and 19 at 10:30am

Mike Mulligan and his beloved Steam Shovel, Mary Anne, have been together for many years. But times have changed and newer, fancier shovels have become fashionable, leaving them out of work and down to their last dime. Their final hope lies in the little town of Popperville, which needs a basement dug for its new City Hall.

The story of hard work, determination and friendship comes to life in this delightful musical adaptation, where we learn that the newest, biggest or most expensive isn’t necessarily the best! Children’s Theatre of Charlotte (formerly known as Tarradiddle Players) has grown to become one of the top theatre and education organizations for young people in the United States.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased in advance at the ticket office at RIFP or the day of the event. Ages 5 and under are free.

Salsa Cinderella by Grey Seal Puppets – July 1, 2, and 3 at 10:30am

This classic tale of love is told with a spicy twist!  All the familiar characters are re-imagined as ingredients in a jar of salsa! Peppers, onion, garlic, and of course, tomatoes, all make up the ingredients of this spicy cast! Experience this timeless classic re-told with a Latin American flavor! 

An original musical score by Charlotte composer John Alexander will have you fighting the urge to mambo in the aisles.   A daz­zling array of rod puppets and shadow puppets all join in the quest to find the foot that fits a simple sandal.  This show is sure to delight the salsa fan in everyone!  Pass the nachos, please!

Happily Ever After Children’s Show by Bright Star Touring Theatre – July 8, 9, and 10 at 10:30am 

The production is a hilarious rendition of some of the best from the Grimm Brothers’ iconic works.  In this 45-minute adventure, the engaging performers of Bright Star Touring Theatre, a national professional touring theatre company based in Asheville, NC, brings to life Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin and The Elves and the Shoemaker.

This fairy-tale inspired production is loaded with audience participation and an endless stream of laughs that will leave you shouting for more!

The Ugly Duckling by Bright Star Touring Theatre – July 29, 30, and 31 at 10:30am

Bright Star Touring Theatre brings us this endearing story of the ugliest duckling in the nest.  It is packed with audience participation and lessons about acceptance, friendship and inner beauty.  Their costume designers have created poultry in motion with their brightly colored ensemble of birds.

Get ready for a hilarious, heartfelt production based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale. Outcast for his unusual appearance, young Eggbert gets picked on, but learns how to handle it with the help of some friends he meets along the way. Eggbert then makes a miraculous transformation into the most beautiful swan in all the land, both inside and out.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased in advance at the ticket office at RIFP or the day of the event. Ages 5 and under are free. 

All performances are inside the air conditioned Indoor Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo.
