The Tortoise and The Hare. The Fox and The Grapes. For more than two thousand years, these and other simple tales have brought life lessons to children and adults around the world. Now, they are the subjects of Theatre of Dare’s first-ever show for kids.
A troupe of four actors is taking Aesop’s Fables on a tour of Dare County Elementary schools, as well as putting on a public performance this Saturday, March 21 at the Dare County Arts Council.
The show contains abridged versions of 18 fables, with the actors getting in and out of various animal disguises. Among the messages in the stories are patience, thoughtfulness, and kindness, making it an ideal show for kids of all ages.
“We’ve always wanted to do a show for kids, and it seemed the time was right this year,” said Theatre of Dare president Don Bridge. “We received a grant from the Outer Banks Community Foundation to assist us in the funding, which really helped make it a reality. We’re very grateful to the Community Foundation for its generosity and excited to be bringing this show to kids all across Dare County, from Southern Shores to Hatteras.”
This Saturday’s public show is chance for kids (and adults) who missed the school shows to see these fables played out live on stage. It will be held at 11 a.m. at the Dare County Arts Council (300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue) in Manteo. Tickets are five dollars and will be available at the door.
