Dare Arts Council Offering Preschool Music Class

Posted By on February 20, 2015

Dare County Arts Council is pleased to present a six-week music workshop for preschoolers. “Musical Moments” is a fun and engaging six-week workshop of fun-filled yet educational classes for preschoolers who are close in age, and is lead by Christine Niver.

Dare County Arts Council offers a preschool music class.

Instructor Christine Niver began playing piano at the age of 5, and began her music teaching career in 1982 after studying at the Royal Conservatory of Canada. She has enjoyed a long career of teaching early childhood music education in Canada and the United States. Since moving to the Outer Banks, Christine offers private music lessons at her home studio, and has taught group lessons with Children @ Play Museum and Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church.

“Musical Moments” is one of a group of international early childhood music programs developed by Barbara Cass-Beggs. The program’s philosophy is to develop the whole child and foster a sense of self-confidence and security. All the arts – movement, language, poetry, storytelling, drama, visual arts – are incorporated into the program with music as the core that integrates all of them. In a small circle, they will not only learn to sing and play simple instruments, they learn to share, and take turns and put things away – all to music; so children learn certain life skills within the atmosphere of music. Learning to listen and focus through music becomes effortless and fun.

Classes meet on Wednesdays, March 4th – April 1st, and are from 10:30am – 11:30am. The first class on March 4th is free to everyone to learn more about “Musical Moments” and meet Christine. Tuition for the full four-week course is $60 for DCAC Members or $70 for non-members.

All materials are provided, as well as an afternoon snack and drink. Parents with more than one child enrolled in the class will receive a 10% discount for each additional child. Musical Moments is held at Dare County Arts Council, 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue in downtown Manteo.

Preregistration is required. Please call DCAC with any questions or to register for this class at (252) 473-5558.
