Outer Banks Weekend Movie Update – Aug. 1, 2014: 'Guardians' Of Marvel Blast Off
Marvel’s next big franchise takes off into space in theaters this week, while James Brown hits the stage, and Tom Cruise lives and dies the same day over and over at The Pioneer.
Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update for the weekend of August 1, 2014!
Premiering Friday at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo for one week, the new sci-fi adventure Edge of Tomorrow (rated PG13) stars Tom Cruise (Top Gun, Interview with the Vampire) as a man who lives (and dies) the same day over and over, in the middle of a war against an alien species.
Showtime at the Pioneer is 8pm nightly.

From Marvel Studios, the epic space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy (rated PG13), about a group of intergalactic misfits who must team up to save the universe, opens Friday at R/C KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills, playing in both 2D and 3D formats.
Chris Pratt of NBC’s Parks and Recreation makes the leap to movie stardom as the human leader of the Guardians, along with Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Star Trek) as a green-skinned alien assassin, pro wrestler Dave Batista as Drax the Destroyer, and the voices of Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) as a talking racoon named Rocket and Vin Diesel (Fast and Furious) as a talking tree named Groot.

The only other new release playing locally this week is Get On Up (rated PG13), about the true life story of the legendary James Brown.
