Village Realty Announces Winner of 'Our State' Giveaway
After receiving over 20,000 entries in the vacation giveaway, featured in North Carolina’s Our State magazine, Village Realty is delighted to announce that the winner of their recent giveaway contest is Elizabeth Lineberger.
The contest was open to entries from mid-April through May and boasted a grand prize of a one week vacation in a historic Nags Head, oceanfront beach cottage during the week of October 12 – 19, 2014. The prize package also includes two tickets to the haunted Roanoke Island walking tour, “PsychoPath” as well as a pair of tickets to the 3rd Annual Outer Banks Seafood Festival, taking place on October 18th. A $50 gift certificate to Kelly’s Restaurant and Tavern will also be given to Mrs. Lineberger, bringing the total retail value of the award to approximately $1750.
Recently contacted with the news of her stroke of luck, Mrs. Lineberger says it couldn’t have come at a better time. “I am thrilled to be looking forward to a week away on the Outer Banks. I’m planning to bring my four sisters for a ‘girl’s weekend’ and am hoping that my mother will be able to come along too.” she says, adding “My son may even be able to visit for a weekend away from college at Appalachian State!” Making the week away even more appealing is the extraordinary Village Realty vacation home that she will be staying in. “I love the house!” she says, noting “it is right on the beach and has a ‘history’ that is intriguing and interesting. It looks like a place you would read about in a good story! I can’t wait to spend some time reading a book in a comfy chair on that wonderful big porch or taking walks on the beautiful Nags Head beach.”
The oceanfront beach bungalow where Mrs. Lineberger and her family will reside during their week away in October is known as “The Fourth Estate Cottage.” Constructed in 1935, the five-bedroom, three-bath house was originally intended to be an exclusive getaway for members of the North Carolina newspaper magnates. In its primary years, it was advertised as being a modern home that offered city conveniences, complete with electric lighting and en suite baths. The cottage was a part of the many cedar-sided beach homes that ran along the stretch of shoreline that has become known as “Millionaire’s Row,” because it was populated by the wealthiest vacationers of that time period.
The cottage’s structure includes remnants that are deeply-rooted in Outer Banks history including shipwreck timbers, ancient ballast stones from the Lost Colony’s fireplace and rocks from the first Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (built in 1790 and closed in 1936 due to severe erosion). Featuring authentic fixtures such as hardwood floors, antique door knobs and a claw-foot tub, the 90-year old home still retains its Old Nags Head charm, despite being completely updated and fully modern by current standards. You can visit the Fourth Estate Cottage property page for more information and a photo-tour.
Village Realty welcomes visitors to stay in one of the more than 600 properties managed by its exceptional rental program, including many that allow pets.
