It’s the dawn of the age of Apes in theaters this week, while Angelina Jolie gets wicked at The Pioneer.

 Premiering this Friday at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo for one week is Disney’s next big re-imagining of one of its most classic animated favorites in the big-budget live-action Maleficent (rated PG), an epic retelling of the Sleepy Beauty legend, starring Angelina Jolie (Wanted, Beowulf) as the evil witch and Elle Fanning (Super 8) as the young beauty about to take a long nap.

Showtime at the Pioneer is 8pm nightly.

The only new release opening locally this week is the sci-fi action film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (rated PG13), a sequel to the prequel of the classic movie franchise, starting tonight (Thursday) with special preview screenings at 10pm and midnight, and officially opening on Friday at R/C KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills.
