Donovan And The Posse Bringing Soulful Reggae To Kelly's [Concert Preview]

Soul Syndicate vocalist Donovan Carless will bring his smooth brand of reggae to the Outer Banks in early July, live in concert at Kelly’s Restaurant and Tavern in Nags Head.

The original Soul Syndicate vocalist, Donovan Carless brings smooth and silky singing that shows music fans an insight into what real reggae is about. Roots reggae music is ageless only getting better with time.

The same can be said of Donovan and his singing style. The veteran singer has a deep reggae experience to his credit As half of Little Roy, he had his first hit in Jamaica and the first roots hit with the song “Bongo Nyah”. Then as singer with Soul Syndicate, the band that was crucial in the invention and popularization of reggae, he sang on many tracks that are now standards.

Before joining the Jamaican diaspora, Donovan sang and arranged seven top hits in both Jamaica and the UK most notably a reggae version of Be Thankful (For What You’ve Got), the inspiration for Massive Attack’s version. In the recent years, Donovan has been reunited with his Soul Syndicate cohorts and has toured with bassist Fully Fullwood’s Tosh Marley Tribute.

 For the past thirteen years, the Posse has backed Donovan around North Carolina and the southeast. Headlining festivals and events as diverse as Raleigh’s First Night New Years Eve party to Reggae on the Lake. Donovan and the Posse are always the crowd favorite.

 The Posse is Sly “Youth” Percival on the keyboards and backing vocals, Broadway on drums, and Christopher “Tuffer” Thurston upon the bass. Members of the Posse have backed many a touring reggae and dancehall singers from Eek-a-mouse to Luciano. Donovan and the Posse have performed shows with Inner Circle, Beres Hammond, Mickey Dread, Culture, and many many others.

Donovan Carless and The Posse will be live in concert at Kelly’s in Nags Head on Thursday, July 3, starting at 10pm.
