Outer Banks Weekend Movie Update – May 16, 2014: ‘Godzilla’ Awakens
Godzilla roars back into theaters this week, facing minor league competition from Disney’s Million Dollar Arm, while Captain America is back in action at The Pioneer.
Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update for the weekend of May 16, 2014!
‘Godzilla’ rises.
Marvel’s sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier (rated PG13) starts Friday at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, playing for one week.
Showtime at The Pioneer is 8pm nightly.
‘The Winter Soldier’ is coming for Captain America in Marvel’s latest sequel.
Returning as the patriotic title hero is Chris Evans (Not Another Teen Movie, The Fantastic Four), along with Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2), and Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The First Avenger) reprising their roles from previous films, with the new additions of screen icon Robert Redford (The Sting) and North Carolina School of Arts alum Anthony Mackie (The Adjustment Bureau) as Falcon.

The King of Monsters will cause all kinds of damage in Godzilla (rated PG13), an epic reboot of the classic franchise, starting tonight (Thursday) at 7pm and officially opening Friday at R/C KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills.

The only other new release playing locally this week is Disney’s Million Dollar Arm (rated PG), about a sports agent who recruits cricket players to play Major League Baseball.

Very well done/. The lead is a bit wooden–hope he’s not around for the sequel, but thats the only flaw I found. BTW, all the Godzilla films spend the first half of the movie on whatever creatures big G is gonna fight, so this movie’s approach is in keeping with the franchise and its tradition. Still, ADHD reviewers and fans want nothing but non stop mayhem, so they slam this film without understanding the context of the franchise’s history. Personally I loved it and am heading back for a second view.
