Brew Thru Announces 2014 Outer Banks Summer Concert Series

Posted By on April 15, 2014

National recording artists Live, Gin Blossoms, The Spin Doctors, Cracker, and Bruce Hornsby are all coming to the Outer Banks as part of the 2014 Brew Thru Summer Concert Series at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo!

First up, Virginia native Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers will be live in concert at Festival Park on Thursday, June 26, with special guests the Pat McGee Band and ChessBoxer.

Twenty five years after winning a Best New Artist Grammy and launching one of contemporary music’s most diverse and collaborative careers, Bruce Hornsby is still, blissfully, making joyful noise—and finding clever, expansive ways to chronicle the dynamic musical snapshots along the journey. His songs capture the playful, freewheeling spirit and unique chemistry of his longtime band The Noisemakers.

“I think the guys in the Noisemakers like the gig because there’s never a dull moment and we attempt to keep the spontaneity factor high,” says Hornsby. “The watchword is always, ‘Watch Bruce.’ I’m a fairly loose leader and I don’t like to rehearse! We mostly just ride around the country on a bus and laugh a lot. Hopefully you can hear that loose spirit in our shows; I just don’t take things too seriously.”

For all his talents as a singer, bandleader and pianist with an instantly identifiable sound, Hornsby is a songwriter at heart who is committed to portraying his songs in new ways that allow them to evolve and expand.

Live is coming to Festival Park on Thursday, July 10, with special guests Cracker (“Low”) and local favorites Formula.

Live’s catalog is filled with songs that recall the 1990s, including seminal mega hits such as “Lightning Crashes”, “I Alone”, “All Over You”, and “Lakini’s Juice”—which remained pillars of the nineties both musically and culturally. “The Dolphin’s Cry” and “Overcome” ushered the group into the 21st century triumphantly.

Given anthems such as those, it’s not surprising the outfit sold over 22 million albums worldwide and has become a veritable concert juggernaut. However, Live’s got a whole new crop of songs on the horizon for 2014 that carry the same poetry, power, and passion.

Cracker was formed 17 years ago, and after eight albums (one platinum and three gold) and a barrel full of hit songs including “What the World Needs Now” and “Low”, the band endures, using their ability to weave decades of influences into their songs.

Gin Blossoms take the stage at Festival Park on Thursday, July 17, with special guests the Spin Doctors and Scars on 45.

In late 80’s Gin Blossoms started to grow a huge following as the #1 local music draw in Phoenix, Arizona and certainly were the hometown hero’s of their favorite hang, Tempe, Arizona. The band’s indelible jangle-pop sound was evolving during radio’s diverse mix of hair bands and grunge music superstars like Nirvana.

Their most recent album, 2010’s No Chocolate Cake”,lands Gin’s back on the singles chart again with “Miss Disarray” and the album shot straight to # 1 on Amazon, hitting Billboard’s top 200 at # 73 and the Indie chart at #14.

To the wider world, the Spin Doctors might be the multi-million-selling icons behind hits like “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong”, not to mention the classic “Pocket Full Of Kryptonite”, but in 2014 Chris Barron (vocals), Aaron Comess (drums), Eric Schenkman (guitar) and Mark White (bass) are reconnecting with the flat-broke twenty-something’s who scraped for dollars at the sharp end of the Big Apple blues circuit. The Spin Doctors have come full-circle.
