Dare County Arts Council Offering Kids Painting Class
The Dare County Arts Council is pleased to present a new children’s painting class, taught by artist Mari Beth LaRose.
In this six-week course, students will gain experiences in tempera, acrylic, and watercolor painting, and will experiment with brushstrokes, texture, shape, color, value and composition.
They will explore a variety of styles of art including abstract, realism, expressionism, impressionism and more! A walking field trip to the waterfront will be taken, so students can try their hand at plein air painting.
Mari Beth LaRose is a National Board Certified Art Instructor and Professional Artist. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Currently she teaches at Manteo Elementary in Manteo, NC and has over fifteen years’ experience teaching children of all ages.
Class will meet once a week on Wednesdays, beginning April 9 through May 21, 2014, at Dare County Arts Council, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue in downtown Manteo.
Because of Spring Break, there will be no class on April 16. Class time is between 3:30pm and 5pm, and snacks will be available. The painting class is ideal for children between ages 7-12 year olds, with a maximum of 15 participants.
Tuition for the full six week course is $170 for DCAC Members or $185 for non-members. All materials are provided. Parents with more than one child enrolled in the class will receive a 10% discount for each additional child. Preregistration is required.
