Outer Banks Comedy Night To Benefit ‘The Lost Colony’

Posted By on March 6, 2014

The Lost Colony will present it’s first comedy production as a new fundraiser this April.

“Tragedy Tomorrow….Comedy Tonight!”  In the famous Broadway Musical “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum,” Stephen Sondheim favors comedy. A man with a taste for the absurd, he would certainly have a fun time at The Lost Colony’s Comedy Tonight! event.

For an exciting night on the town mark your calendars for Friday, April 25, 2014.

The Sound Stage Theatre, on the grounds of the The Lost Colony, will be transformed into an intimate comedy club for the event which begins at 6:00 pm.  Guests are encouraged to dress in Evening Casual wear.  While the event is a fundraiser, the accent is on FUN and it will be anything but a stuffy formal gala.

“The spring fundraiser plays a vital role in our development plans for the year and is our primary fundraising event.  Southern Bank is graciously sponsoring the night.  We look for generous support from our community and will be pulling out all the stops to stage a marvelous evening of entertainment.  Of course there will be a fantastic selection of items in a silent auction, a fantastic meal by Kelly’s, beverages by Albemarle Distributing and City Beverage and to top it all off…we have one of the best comedians in the country, Heywood Banks.  We hope everyone has the time of their lives…and that we raise a lot of money.” said Bill Coleman, CEO.

Heywood Banks is simply one-of-a-kind, almost impossible to describe, with a style his very own. Equal parts genius and buffoon, this songwriter-comic-singer-poet-musician has become a cult hero and a pop icon, with a show that appeals to everyone from college students to businessmen and grandparents.

He intersperses his humorous observations of life with twisted, inventive, bizarre songs, sung and played in a variety of styles, from folk, to country to rock to pop, and way beyond.  You have to be pretty smart to get Heywood at his deepest level (he demands a high level of pop culture literacy), but you can also enjoy him just for his vocal style impersonations, expert musicianship and just plain silliness.

Banks has been featured in both “Rolling Stone Magazine” and “People Magazine.” He won First Place in the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search Contest.  Heywood Banks has appeared on A&E’s “Evening at the Improv,” MTV’s “1/2 Hour Comedy Hour,” CNN’s “Hollywood Minute,” “Caroline’s Comedy Hour,” “Entertainment Tonight,” “Showtime Comedy Club Network,” “Dr. Demento Show,” “12th Annual HBO Young Comedians Special with Paul Rodriguez” and is a frequent guest on the national Bob and Tom radio show.  Comedy Tonight! will mark his first appearance on the Outer Banks.

The Lost Colony‘s Comedy Tonight! fundraiser is happening on Friday, April 25, starting at 6pm at the historic Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island.

Tickets are $100 each and sponsored tables are available for $1000, including priority seating, a special memento of the evening, and champagne for the table.

You can purchase advance tickets online here.

'Comedy Tonight!' will be a hilarious fundraiser for 'The Lost Colony', on April 25 at Waterside Theatre.
