2014 Frank Stick Art Show Winners Announced
The Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will be on display at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery in Nags Head from January 25th through February 22nd.
Now in its 36th year, the show includes a wide variety of local fine art ranging from conceptual to realistic. This is the longest running visual art exhibition in Dare County and features original work, including sculpture, painting, drawing, fiber, pottery and mixed media.
The judge for 2014 was Catherine Coulter Lloyd. She received a BFA from Western Carolina University, an MFA from East Carolina University, and Museum Management Certificate through the Southeastern Museums Council Jekyll Island Management Institute. Her works in ceramics, fiber, and photography have been included in numerous juried, invitational, and solo exhibitions.
Ms. Lloyd is currently an instructor of record in ceramics at Pitt Community College, and most recently a Visual Arts Specialist (curator) with the Maria V. Howard Arts Center at the Imperial Centre for Arts and Sciences in Rocky Mount, NC.
Congratulations to this year’s winners. Best in Show was awarded to Kathryn Osgood for her piece “Tidepool Brooch” in copper/enamel/powdercoat/paint/pearls/resin. Excellence Awards went to E. M. Corsa, “Inked”, watercolor/collage; Andrew Dutcher, “Vase”, ceramic; Greg Orloff, “Alpha Vaporizer”, found object assemblage; and Gretchen Dibler, “Beacon in the Storm”, acrylic. Artists receiving Honorable Mentions include Patty Zukerowski, “Dogwoods”, stained glass; Shelby Matthews, “Pondering Flight”, photography; and Shirley Ruff, “Can Fanny”, encaustic/tin.
The People’s Choice Award was for the oil painting “A Defender” by Torin Francis. Additionally, a diptych by Abby Daugherty of First Flight High School was chosen from the Dare County School’s art exhibit as an honorary entry in this year’s Frank Stick Memorial Art Show.

The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show was started in 1978 by Dare County Arts Council to honor Mr. Stick, a renowned local artist and environmental crusader. His illustrations and paintings became popular in the early part of the 20th Century.
The show is open to the public through February 22nd from 10am – 5pm Monday through Friday, and noon until 4pm on Saturday. The gallery is closed on Sundays. You can see these works at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery, 210 E. Driftwood Street in Nags Head.
